Philanthropic Partner Program
Housing is out of reach.
Home is where we raise our families, age in place, build financial stability, and stay healthy and safe. Communities with homes affordable and available for every household thrive. A home has become increasingly out of reach for lower and moderate income households in Hardwick and Lamoille County. Rental and homeownership costs have become unattainable for families and individuals and there are not enough apartments to rent or homes to purchase.
Support affordable housing in Hardwick & Lamoille County.
Why does LHP fundraise? As a 501c3 nonprofit affordable housing developer, LHP relies on local level fundraising for proposed developments to gain traction and break ground in local communities; fundraising also triggers state and federal resources that provide the lion’s share of development funding. To build a strong reservoir of funding for future development work, LHP seeks to raise $100,000 annually through local level giving. Throughout 2022, LHP had an average of 5 vacant apartments and 500 household applicants. As long as there is continued demand for affordable housing, our work will continue.
How does LHP use your donation? Philanthropic Partner Program membership dollars are used towards an affordable housing development’s first phase costs, including but not limited to: local housing needs and assessment studies, feasibility studies, permitting, site assessments, and environmental review.
Impact of your support. “This neighborhood has given my family, as well as all the other families, a place to call home” - LHP resident. Membership dollars at work in 2022 preserved and created more than 290 affordable housing opportunities in Johnson, Jeffersonville, Morrisville, Stowe and Hardwick for over 450 adults and children. In 2023, LHP’s affordable rental portfolio will increase by 50 additional apartments thanks in part to Philanthropic Partner Program membership.
Benefits of increasing affordable housing opportunities.
Affordable housing promotes economic mobility and long term housing success. Safe, stable, affordable and good quality housing contributes to positive outcomes in physical and mental health, and increases access to quality education and employment opportunities, and healthcare services, as well as reduced medical expenses over time. Affordable homes prevent displacement from communities, which enables people to make investments in their communities and social relationships. When lower wage workers can afford to live in close proximity to their jobs, transportation and accessibility barriers are reduced, and local employment opportunities become more viable and sustainable versus commuting to communities with more competitive employment opportunities. Affordable housing increases local business revenues, community wide growth, and contributes to resources that benefit whole communities.
